INSIDE MY WRITING PROCESS

01

Let’s Chat

Before we work together, it’s essential to evaluate mutual fit. During our initial discovery call, I want to learn more about your org leadership, values, brand strategy, and content goals. During this call, I will also share more about my process and answer any questions you have.

02

Brand Voice Questionnaire

When I understand who you are — and why you do what you do — I can write more intentional and strategic articles. Before we create any content, you will complete a brand voice questionnaire, responding to prompts like “Describe your ideal client” and “What sources do you trust the most?”

03

Topic Brainstorm

I believe every piece of content should be intentional because it’s an extension of your brand. Before I create content, we will brainstorm strategic topic ideas. Ideas will be informed by my industry research and your product or service, along with your marketing strategy.

04

Interview & Abstract

After we choose a topic, I will create a brief abstract. If I am ghostwriting content, I will also conduct interviews with you or someone else on your team. During the interview, we will articulate your opinion on the topic to shape the piece. After all, we are positioning you as a thought leader.

05

Research & Writing

After I create an abstract, I will begin the writing process. I will conduct thorough research. Content will link to data from firms like GALLUP, PwC, and McKinsey & Company; recommendations from places like SHRM; and insight from publications like FastCompany and HBR.

06

Edit & Finalize

When completed, I will send you a Google Doc version for easy editing. You (or someone on your team) can edit directly or leave comments on the piece. I offer up to two rounds of revisions. When revisions are complete, I’ll send you a final version that you can publish or submit as a contributed piece.

frequently asked questions

to help you assess fit

I do not write web copy for clients. I offer ghostwritten or bylined thought leadership articles and ebooks. If you need copy for your website — like your Home or About page — you need a website copywriter who specializes in persuasive copy that converts.

Although copywriting and content writing are often used interchangeably, they’re not the same thing. Copywriting (e.g. websites, ads, etc.) is persuasive content that’s focused on conversion. Content writing (e.g. articles, ebooks, etc.) is informative content meant to cultivate trust and build awareness.

I recognized my interest in the world of work before I recognized my passion for writing. I worked in career centers throughout college and also after graduating with my MS. When I resigned from my role as a career advisor, I jumped into freelance writing, pivoting from resumes and cover letters to thought leadership content about the world of work.
